Winter is coming! After a rather pleasant start to autumn, cold air flows are starting to show their noses, and if we believe the media, this year Europe will be the scene of the coldest winter in 100 years. A cold winter, why not – but that doesn’t mean we should leave our terrace aside! So here are some ideas to make your terrace pleasant, welcoming, and warm even in winter.
A heated terrace, is it possible?
Never be cold on your terrace again and enjoy special moments in autumn and winter! Bring a source of heat with a gas patio heater, an electric heating column, an outdoor fireplace or a brazier – today there are many solutions on the market and it is very easy to find the right accessories to heat a terrace or garden area.
Choose comfortable furniture to curl up under a blanket
A flea market-style rocking chair, a bench, wicker chairs with round seats, garden armchairs – we opt for comfortable furniture that lets its users take the pleasure of adopting the position that suits them best!
Create a covered space to protect from rain and cold
Bistro-style patio tent, custom-made shade cloth or even a pergola with curtains to cut the wind – think about covering your patio which will protect its occupants and furniture from the rain, but also cut the wind and the cold. In a way, we create a shelter that will keep the heat in while offering the pleasure of being outside.
Cushions and faux furs
They visually warm up the space and make it more comfortable! Well-padded cushions, colored or plain depending on the style, faux fur rugs and throws are trendy this winter and give an instant cocoon effect.
Soft lighting
And here again to bring warmth, play the lighting card. Lanterns with yellow lights, filament bulbs, portable lamps, candlesticks and tealight holders will give your space an intimate and cozy look.
Some winter plants
Heather, wintergreen, holly, purple sage, winter jasmine or even camellia and not forgetting the Christmas rose – a terrace or balcony in bloom even in winter is possible! Visit your usual garden center and get advice on the most cold-resistant plants.
Finally, after these few months spent on your winter terrace, the time will soon come to prepare for spring and reorganize your terrace for the sunny days. Discover more decorating tips for a luxury terrace in summer in the following article.
