Red curtains in a room: tips for successful decoration
Red curtains have a timeless charm. Stars of theaters and concert halls are also invited into the interiors of homes, in the living room, the bedroom, and even the bathroom. However, be careful, hanging red curtains on your windows requires paying attention to the entire decoration so as not to make any false notes. Here are some tips for putting red curtains in a room, with elegance.
Be careful with color mixes
Red is a warm color. The presence of red curtains in a room can attract attention, so it is important to ensure the harmony of colors so as not to create an imbalance, or even to combine colors that will clash. For example, yellow, blue, or even green can hardly be associated with red. Do not install red curtains in your room if you have decided to paint a section of the wall in a bright color. On the other hand, red curtains enhance white, ecru, beige, black, and taupe walls as well as different shades of gray.
You should also ensure the sobriety of the rest of the decor. We often find these famous red curtains that take up space in rustic and antique-based decorations, but nothing prevents us from associating them with more contemporary furniture. They go very well with modern wooden or white lacquered furniture, pretty sofas and armchairs in fabrics in sober colors as well as with a pretty parquet floor on which we place a large carpet, preferably beige.
Touches of red in the rest of the room
To create the most elegant decoration, it is important that red can be present on other objects. So don’t hesitate to hang paintings with touches of red on the walls, to place cushions or a red plaid on the sofa, a vase on a chest of drawers or a side table… Don’t hesitate to opt for golden decorative elements either!
In the bedroom, a pair of red curtains on the windows is perfect with a small red rug at the foot of the bed or a red armchair somewhere in the room. And if you have decided to put red curtains in your bathroom, arrange a red bath mat or a shower curtain with touches of red as a reminder.
Choosing the right shade of red and material for your curtains
You have certainly noticed Poppy red, burgundy, tomato, purple, burgundy, but red comes in many shades. Be careful to choose according to the atmosphere you want to create and the furniture and decorative elements you have. If you want to create reminders of red in the house, make sure that the colors are close because too many different reds could create confusion. Red curtains remain pretty in a room when you know how to match them with elements of a similar tone.
The same goes for the material of your red curtains. Each material has its atmosphere. The most common curtains are those made of polyester and cotton, and they go very well with contemporary decoration. Conversely, if you want to create a country atmosphere, then linen is the recommended material. It goes perfectly with pretty, sturdy wooden furniture. Finally, go for silk, velvet, and taffeta for a refined and timeless room.
