Our tips for organizing your garden shed
A garden shed can be extremely useful, especially if you don’t have a garage available. Easy to assemble on your land, it allows you to store gardening equipment, shelter a few plants, store DIY items… And even store other items for which you don’t have enough space at home. By opting for a large enough model, it is even possible to add a small workshop for gardening or DIY inside. Of course, a garden shed is often quite narrow, which limits the available space. This is why it is in your interest to organize it optimally. Here are some ideas:
Hang your tools
To make the most of the space in your garden shed, start by hanging tools on the walls. This way, they will take up minimal space, without taking up the useful volume of the room. With this in mind, securely attach hooks or coat hooks to the wall.
For your bulky tools, choose large hooks and possibly complete them with vertical boards that will hold them in place. A simple horizontal board with a few slots will also do the trick. And for your small tools, you can hang several rows above each other.
Add shelves
Next, exploiting heights is a golden rule when you want to optimize a small space. With this in mind, our next suggestion is to add shelves to your shed. If it is a metal garden shed (like those on the Abri de Jardin Métal website), you can even fix them to the wall for more stability.
And to avoid wasted space, it is better to opt for open shelves rather than closed cabinets or cupboards. You will enjoy more flexible storage (for various objects and boxes) and will not be bothered by the need to open doors.
Attach storage to the exterior
Since your garden shed is located outside, you can also use its exterior facades. How? By attaching storage to it. First, hanging a support to hang your rolled up garden hose will be very practical. Likewise, add a few hooks outside to hang your equipment while you garden (shovel, spade, rake, etc.).
Second, you can install a small cupboard containing the gardening tools you use most often (pruning shears, screwdrivers, knives, etc.). This way, they will be easily accessible whenever you need them.
Protect the products
Finally, it is important to properly secure the objects stored in your shelter. More specifically, if you store dangerous or fragile substances there, make sure they are in good conditions. And if they are homemade mixtures, remember to label them well (contents, date, use, etc.).
For products requiring special storage conditions, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure that the containers are perfectly closed and place them in optimal conditions (protected from light and humidity for example).
For potentially dangerous substances, take the same precautions. In addition, place them in a safe place – out of the reach of children and animals.
