How to use a home alarm: instructions for use
It is important to choose the right home alarm to protect your home and reduce the risk of being burgled. Unfortunately, choosing your alarm is not always easy, and several factors must be taken into account: the size of the home, the value of the property, outdoor space, or not… zoom in on the best alarm system that meets your needs.
Traditional alarm, connected alarm, video surveillance…
The first criterion to consider is the type of system to choose. The traditional alarm will simply be a motion detector that will send a signal to the control panel when an intrusion is detected. The control panel will emit an audible signal to scare off the intruder. The connected alarm will be able to inform you directly on your smartphone, and trigger – or not – the alarm siren. If you use a surveillance camera, it will be able to record the intrusion on video and serve as proof later.
Match your alarm to your home
Depending on the size and layout of your home, you may want to opt for a basic alarm or an advanced alarm, which is therefore more expensive. For example, an alarm for a T2 or T3 apartment only requires a simple alarm with a surveillance camera to cover the entrance to the home or the large living room. A 100m² house with a garden will require a fairly advanced wireless home alarm system, with a connected control panel, and outdoor surveillance cameras to also cover the garden.
How to recognize a quality alarm?
There are several criteria to consider when looking for a home alarm. In particular, there is a standard called the NF A2P standard, which is a guarantee of quality. This standard allows you to avoid fraudulent and cheap alarm systems that have malfunctions that could be fatal to you in the event of a burglary: lack of a secondary energy source in the event of a power outage, GSM (or GPRS) transmission module.
Be sure to check for additional features, such as the ability to see in the dark with an infrared lighting system, which is the only way to detect a burglar at night.
Install a home alarm, wired or wireless?
To answer this question, you need to know where your home is in terms of its current situation. Already built? Under construction? Under renovation? In terms of cost, it will be more advantageous to choose a wired alarm only if your apartment or house is currently being built. Indeed, in the case of a finished home, it would be necessary to do work on the walls to install a wired alarm, and the intervention of a technician to install it will add additional costs to the operation. We therefore advise you to choose a wireless alarm, more expensive to purchase, but immediately profitable due to its ease of installation, the costs saved for the technician’s travel since you can install the alarm yourself, and the “0 work” mention.
