How to maintain your memory foam mattress?

An essential element of bedding, the mattress is the ultimate rest accessory.

Used daily, it receives many bodily residues such as dead skin, infiltrations of sweat, and other secretions.

In this state, this equipment of your bedding presents all the favorable conditions for the development and proliferation of bacteria. Of course, this is not without repercussions on the quality of your sleep. To avoid this kind of situation, it is therefore advisable to take care of it. How to effectively maintain your memory foam mattress? Find out here.

Dust your mattress

Like any other piece of furniture in your home, your mattress can collect dust, even if it is not noticeable. In addition, it can harbor dust mites or fleas if you have dogs or cats..

It is therefore essential to clean your mattress to avoid bites from these insects or other health problems. To do this, you will need to vacuum the entire surface of your mattress as often as possible.

Take your time, because if you dust your bedding poorly, the effort will have been in vain. Also, be sure to vacuum both sides of your mattress. If you are more of a perfectionist, sprinkle your bedding with baking soda first. Let it sit for about 1 hour and then vacuum again. Baking soda effectively fights dust mites and helps to suck up the moisture contained in your bed.

Air your mattress

During sleep, an individual loses an average of 40 cl of water through perspiration. This secretion then infiltrates your mattress and promotes the development of mites and other bacteria. You will agree that this is not without consequences on the quality of your rest.

The best way to combat the humidity in your memory foam mattress is to air it frequently. There are several options available to you for this. For example, by changing your sheets, open the windows in your room and leave your mattress bare for a few minutes. This will allow your bedding to breathe a little and the ambient air will rid it of bad odors.

On the other hand, the use of a slatted base is also recommended. Indeed, it allows perfect air circulation provided that you do not put boards on it. In addition, some memory foam mattresses are equipped with aerators.

Return your bedding equipment

To be as effective, memory foam mattresses are designed with viscoelastic foam. This element is what gives the mattress its enveloping capacity and its ability to return to its original shape. However, the lifespan of this foam is not indefinite.

To preserve it for as long as possible, you simply need to turn your mattress frequently. This seemingly innocuous routine contributes greatly to the durability of memory foam mattresses.

In addition, this allows your bed to wear evenly and guarantees you better sleeping comfort.

For this purpose, many mattresses have one side for summer and another for winter.

This somewhat forces you to alternate these two sides at least twice a year.

Clean stains on your mattress

If you have children, then you have certainly had to deal with urine stains on their mattresses. Of course, this does not have a direct impact on the comfort of the mattress, but it is necessary to clean them. For this, you will need liquid soap, sponges, a dryer, and of course some warm water.

Please note, however, that this type of operation is preferably carried out outdoors. This allows for better drying as well as contact with open air on the bunk. To clean, start by pouring a few drops of soap into a liter of water.

Lightly dampen the stained areas with the sudsy water and rub gently until the marks disappear. Then rinse with lukewarm water and sponge up as much water as possible. Run the dryer overall damp areas to facilitate drying.

For optimal moisture evaporation, leave the mattress in the sun for the rest of the day. Please note that this type of operation should never be carried out with bleach or ammonia. These products are too aggressive and will quickly deteriorate your memory foam mattress.

In short, like your sheets and pillowcases, your memory foam mattress is not exempt from dirt. Worse, it is an ideal breeding ground for dust mites that can cause allergies and other skin infections. More than your sleep, it is your health that will be impacted. Regular maintenance of your mattress will therefore protect you from these inconveniences. So, don’t skimp on the means and clean it!
