Choosing from wall protection plates for wood stoves

New property owners or tenants looking for a heating solution, many families are turning to installing a wood stove in their homes. Combining quality heating, sought-after aesthetics, and ecological awareness, this type of equipment that was thought to be obsolete is finding interest in many French homes.

To enjoy its benefits with complete peace of mind, the installation of a wood stove must be carefully prepared and a few accessories that are both safe and aesthetic must be associated with it.  In addition to the floor plate to protect the covering, a wall plate limits the thermal impact of your stove’s flue on the adjacent wall and enhances the aesthetics of the room in question. To help you choose it, we have put together this short guide for future owners of a wood stove.

Why install a wall protection plate?

The wall protection plate for wood stoves is above all an essential device for the safety of your home. Thanks to its insulating and fireproof properties, it limits the impact of the stove’s radiation on the adjacent wall, thus eliminating any risk of fire.

At the same time,  it protects the wall from carbon deposits that could blacken or yellow it in the long term. The wall plate, which is easy to maintain, thus limits the maintenance of the installation.

Finally, the wall plate is a real decorative element. This is evidenced by its multiple and varied graphic variations that allow everyone to compose with the spirit of their interior and their aesthetic tastes.

The wall protection plate, a regulatory obligation

Beyond its aesthetic and safety benefits, the protective wall plate is a regulatory requirement for anyone wishing to install a stove at a reasonable distance from their wall. Indeed, according to  DTU 24.1, the law stipulates that any stove flue must be located at a distance equivalent to three times its diameter.

However, the addition of a wall plate that complies with the standards reduces the ratio between the diameter of the flue and the minimum distance between it and the wall to 1.5. While still respecting a minimum of 20 cm. Consequently, with a wall plate and a 20 cm diameter flue, the distance goes from 60 to 30 cm.  The wall plate is therefore an interesting asset to optimize your interior space.

A designer touch to your interior

The wall plate is also a way to add a personal touch to your interior. The range of colors available is very varied. From matte white to sand gray to frosted black, all the tones are represented to allow you to adapt your accessory to the atmosphere of your living room.

In addition, the patterns offered present the same diversity. Fans of industrial decor or a more rustic style, will find something to satisfy you among the multiple graphics offered. From the most sober to the most figurative, you will make your wall plate an object that is both functional and artistic which, combined with the dance of the flames of your stove, will delight your guests from the youngest to the most experienced!
