Indeed, disposable protections are extremely polluting because they represent a lot of waste, but also because their manufacture also has a significant impact on the environment. It is therefore entirely possible to choose a solution that is much more sustainable and eco-responsible while being comfortable. Period panties, washable towels, or even cups are solutions that are very popular with many women.
Period panties
Period panties are underwear designed to absorb flow during menstruation. There are different models, for example high-waisted, low-waisted, black, colored, patterned, with lace, and many other things. The different models all have in common that they have a more or less large and thick absorption area depending on the need and the model chosen.
The period panties can therefore be worn throughout the day and then rinsed with clean water in the evening and machine washed. Once dry, they can then be worn again. This type of model therefore allows you to benefit from a reusable solution for many years.
Period panties have the advantage of being very comfortable to wear daily.
The washable towel
On the same principle as period panties, we find the washable towel. The washable towel is positioned like a classic sanitary towel with flaps equipped with press studs for example to be worn for sometimes several hours to absorb the menstrual flow. It can be changed during the day to wear a clean one as needed. Once the day is over, it must also be rinsed with clean water and can then be machine-washed to be worn again once dry.
The washable towel also allows you to make real savings and choose an eco-responsible solution. However, depending on the model chosen, it may tend to move throughout the day, which can affect the comfort felt and its effectiveness.
The menstrual cup
The menstrual cup or cup is a device that will collect menstrual flow. Once properly positioned, the cup is no longer felt throughout its use, a bit like a tampon. After a certain amount of time depending on the cup chosen, but also the abundance of your menstrual flow, it will need to be emptied. You will therefore need to take the time to wash your hands carefully, empty the cup in the toilet and then wash it before being able to use it again. This is a process that can be somewhat restrictive when you have to carry out the various manipulations in public toilets for example.
There are therefore different solutions to consider for opting for a zero-waste solution during your period and the solution chosen will depend above all on your preference.
