After summer, think about winterizing your pool
Winterizing is a necessary operation to preserve your pool and its various installations during the cold season, which helps to avoid unpleasant surprises in the spring. If you have just become the owner of a pool and the term “winterizing” was previously unknown to you, then we strongly recommend that you read this article.
Winterizing for a preserved swimming pool
When the weather gets cooler and swimming is no longer an option, you need to think about winterizing your pool; as soon as the water temperature drops below 12°C, it is recommended to consider winterizing it.
This operation helps to preserve the quality of the water and protect the equipment from bad weather during the winter for an impeccable pool the following summer,
You should not rush or wait too long, as frost can occur quickly and cause significant damage. It is strongly advised not to empty the water from the pool, as the very structure of the pool needs the pressure exerted by the liquid to ensure its sustainability.
How to winterize your swimming pool?
There are two types of wintering: one active, the other passive; in the first case, filtration is simply slowed down while it is completely stopped in the second.
Active wintering
Active winterizing of your pool consists of operating your pool in slow motion, to keep the equipment running and the water moving. It is a simple technique to implement, with a quick restoration, which preserves the quality of the water, while maintaining the aesthetics of the garden, since it does not require covering the pool with a tarpaulin.
You will need to maintain the pool regularly, by adding a winterizing product to prevent freezing, by checking the quality of the water and its balance, preventing the risk of freezing by moving the water, and by maintaining two to three hours of filtration per day.
Passive wintering
Passive wintering involves completely stopping the operation of the pool and its various equipment. A tarpaulin covers the pool and the equipment is put to sleep. This type of pool wintering is particularly recommended in cold regions, where the risk of frost is high.
The advantage is that it only requires minimal maintenance throughout the winter and does not require any electricity consumption. First, you need to clean the pool thoroughly, for example with a pool robot, as well as the equipment (filter, pump, skimmer, etc.), then lower the water level slightly by 10 centimeters below the return jets.
The filtration system must be stopped and then cleaned and a wintering product poured into the pool. Broom sockets, bottom drains, and return jets must be plugged and wintering floats placed on the water as well as gizmos in the skimmers, to limit freezing. Finally, don’t forget to cover your pool with a tarpaulin! This is the last element but it is also the most essential; after which, you will be ready for the arrival of winter.
