What to do after a DCG?
The accounting and management diploma – or DCG, is awarded after the first three years of study for those who have completed accounting or management training. Equivalent to a bac + 3, it can lead to multiple orientations: either continuing your studies or entering the job market. What are the possibilities for holders of this diploma? An overview!
What is this?
The DCG is the first stage of the chartered accountant training cycle. It lasts three years and is nationally recognized as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. To be able to apply for this training, you must hold a scientific, economic, and social baccalaureate or STMG. For their part, holders of the BTS CG or the DUT GEA specializing in accounting and finance can enter directly into the 2nd year.
This training consists of learning all the basics. The first year thus consists of a general introduction to the different fields. And, if it remains an introduction, it is still an opportunity to discover the profession in a concrete and intensive way. 30 hours of classes per week are to be expected.
The specificity of this training comes from its assessment: each student must, to validate their DCG, obtain at least 10 to 13 tests, knowing that they must present 4 or 5 each year and can move from one year to another without taking into account the validation of their tests.
What professions after validation of the diploma?
After the DCG, it is possible to enter the job market directly because this diploma is sufficient to occupy several different positions.
Their first possibility is to become an accounting assistant in a company: this involves providing the chartered accountant with operational support in his various tasks. Recording and numbering accounting documents are among the most common tasks for an assistant holding a DCG.
It is also possible to become an accountant in an accounting firm. He will have to keep the accounts of his clients and prepare their tax returns as well as their social declarations. If he is placed under the supervision of an accountant, it is still the possibility of having first direct contact with clients.
Within a fairly short period after obtaining a DCG, it is also possible to become a management controller. This involves analyzing the results of the various production units of a company to enable it then to optimize its productivity. This is not general accounting but analytical accounting!
Continue your studies
The most patient DCG holders can continue their studies and seek to obtain their DSCG and then take the national diploma of a chartered accountant. That said, this training remains very difficult to access, its admission rate is at most 15%. It allows for diversification and a significant deepening of the different skills and disciplines taught. It is possible to prepare for this competition as an independent candidate but it is better to go through a specialized institute.
Since the DCG is considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, it can open the door to a Master’s degree, in particular a CCA Master’s degree – Master’s degree in accounting, control, and auditing. It allows the student to acquire general knowledge of disciplines that are part of the general culture in management sciences, but also to develop advanced skills in the various disciplines related to corporate finance and the legal sector.
